Robot Programs
Robots in the auto industry are usually not reprogrammed because the costs of programming robots are very high. A typical six-axis industrial robot might cost about $60,000, but the price of actually programming and deploying the robot can cost an additional $200,000. It can be cheaper to buy a new robot than reprogram an old one for many industrial applications.
Robotic Characters
The Disney Corporation has been building entertainment robots as long as anyone can remember and they have learned a lot in the process. Disney's technicians have created thousands of robots for use as theme park characters like dancing bears and singing pirates. When visiting Walt Disney World in Florida you can even get your drinks served by a robot called “X1846.”
Immortal Servants
Modern industrial robots have evolved rapidly to the point of being true marvels of engineering. Today a robot about the size of an average person can pick up, carry and place a 100 pound load very quickly with a repeatability of plus or minus .006 inches. Industrial robots routinely perform complicated tasks 24 hours a day for years at a time.
